The Bojańczyk Brewery in Włocławek is a factory complex of the historic Bojańczyk Brewery from the 19th century. The five buildings were built between 1832 and 1880: the main brewery building, three warehouses and the administrator's house.

history

The brewery was founded in 1832 by Kazimierz Bojańczyk . It was vodka and beer manufactured in quantities of several hundred barrels per year. The brewery was one of the largest in town. It remained in the hands of the Bojańczyk family even after Kazimierz's death, when their son Rafał became the owners, and later his son Wincenty . In 1886, in the time of Rafał Bojańczyk, a pail of beer cost 30 kopecks . The brewery has been gradually expanded from the very beginning. First the main building of the brewery was built in 1832, then three warehouses were built in 1878. The last building, the manager's house, was built in 1880. The brewery belonged to the family until the end of the Second World War , when it was nationalized. Jerzy Bojańczyk managed the brewery until 1914 . The First World War slowed down the development of the brewery and in 1921 Wincenty Bojańczyk sold the company to a joint stock company founded by his son Jerzy. The beer production in 1927 was around 5600 hectoliters. After the buildings were handed over to the state administration, they served as a warehouse, distribution station for fish and a sewing workshop.

The main building of the brewery

The main building of the brewery

The building was built in 1832 by Kazimierz Bojańczyk as the first and also the main building. It is made of red, burnt bricks. To emphasize architectural details such as pilaster strips and coronation and cordon cornices, lighter bricks were used in the facades. The blind windows, which are crowned with lintels, give the facade its charm. Facade divisions were carefully designed by separating gable facades and the equivalent in the gable roof. The facade front opposite the entrance of the Łęgska Street is thanks to three pinnacles of the most representative part of the building and clearly dominates the other buildings. The architectural position of the brewery lost its importance due to numerous additions that in no way match the building.

Warehouse No. 1

The warehouse was built in 1878. Like the main building of the brewery, it is a four-story brick building. The warehouse is covered with a gable roof with ceramic tiles. In front of the western side there is an extension with a staircase next to the building. Due to the use as a warehouse, the floors have different heights.

Warehouse No. 2

Built in 1878. The warehouse no. 2, which was entered in the monument register on June 12, 1998 under number 413 / A, is a brick construction made of red bricks with lime mortar. With warehouses No. 3 and No. 1, it forms part of the front facade of Bechiego Street. The building has three floors and a partial basement; only two floors above ground are visible from the facade side. The building is crowned with a gable roof on a wooden purlin and collar beam construction with two walls, which is covered with asphalt roofing felt.

The building is located on Bechiego Street towards Łęgska Street. It consists of three segments: the first (od Wisły), the middle and one on the corner segment. The facade on Łęgska Street is provided with a frieze in the form of a canopy with a pointed arch motif, which cannot be found in any other building in Włocławek and which represents a neo-Gothic element.

The administrator's house

The only building that was used for residential purposes from the beginning and that still has this function today. It is currently inhabited by seven families. The construction and design of the house is typical of the 18th century with a central load-bearing chimney wall and suites.

Revitalization

Construction work
The illumination of the brewery after the revitalization

The Włocławek City Council made the revitalization of the historic brewery buildings a priority. However, due to several problems, the realization of the project was delayed. For a long time the city (samorząd Włocławka) had difficulties with the expropriation of the last property. The city decided to take over the property at 28 Łęgska Street from a private owner who had legally acquired it from the city in 2003, citing the repurchase right in the purchase agreement. Ultimately, the final decision on ownership of the property was made in the Court of Appeal in Gdańsk , where Włocławek was appointed owner of the property. The brewery's revitalization project calls for the demolition of some non-historic buildings. In their place the new building will be built, which will be linked to the brick facades of the historical buildings. After the end of the revitalization, the Center of Brewery Culture B (Centrum Kultury Browaru B) will be built here. Several exhibition areas, study rooms, a large dance hall, an event hall, conference rooms and multi-purpose rooms are to be created there.

Among other things, the center will offer school programs for students from nearby schools. Computer rooms and rooms for foreign language classes are planned. The center is aimed at institutions, non-governmental organizations and associations that can host events there.

On December 30, 2011, the Włocławek City Council signed a contract with the construction company, Molewski from Chodecz, following the tendering process . The value of the project is 37,547,000 zlotys. The renovation work lasted until September 30, 2013. The investment is funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Regional Program for the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in the funding period 2007-2013. The promotion amounted to 18,469,000 zlotys.
