Government of WT Cosgrave 6
The WT Cosgrave 6 government was the fifth Executive Council of the Irish Free State , serving from April 3, 1930 to March 9, 1932.
When the previous government was defeated in the vote on the Old Age Pensions Bill by 64 to 66 votes, the President of the Executive Council William Thomas Cosgrave announced his resignation on March 28, 1930.
After neither Éamon de Valera ( Fianna Fáil ) nor Thomas O'Connell ( Irish Labor Party ) could win a majority in the Dáil Éireann (parliament), Cosgrave was re-elected on April 2nd with 80 to 65 votes. The ministers were elected by the Dáil the following day. The appointment of the members of the Executive Board was made by Governor General James McNeill . All members of the government belonged to Cumann na nGaedheal (CG), with the exception of the Chairman of the Farmers' Party (FP), Michael Heffernan , who became Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Post and Telegraphy.
In the following parliamentary election on February 16, 1932 Fianna Fáil was the strongest party and was the government until 1948.
