De Valera Government 6
The De Valera 6 government was the first government of the Republic of Ireland , in office from December 29, 1937 to June 30, 1938.
The Constitution of the Republic of Ireland came into force on December 29, 1939. The government of the Irish Free State , the 8th Executive Council , in office since July 21, 1937 , became the first government of the Republic of Ireland with the same composition when the constitution came into force. Taoiseach (head of government) was Éamon de Valera , who headed a cabinet of Fianna Fáil (FF).
Douglas Hyde was elected Ireland's first President of Ireland on May 31, 1938 . He took office on June 25th. The Dáil Éireann (Parliament) was re-elected on June 17th. The ruling Fianna Fáil won an absolute majority and De Valera was re-elected as head of government.
