Lemass government 1
The Lemass 1 government was the 9th government of the Republic of Ireland , serving from June 23, 1959 to October 11, 1961.
The Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Éamon de Valera was elected President of Ireland on June 17, 1959 . He then resigned from the office of Taoiseach. On June 23, the previous Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) Seán Lemass was elected as the new head of government by the Dáil Éireann (Lower House of the Irish Parliament) with 75 votes against 51 . The members of the government were appointed by the president the following day. The government consisted only of members of the Fianna Fáil , which had 75 of the 147 seats in parliament.

Reshuffles
On July 23, 1959, the parliamentary secretary Gerald Bartley moved to the Ministry for the Gaeltacht, his successor was Joseph Brennan . Michael Moran , previously Minister for the Gaeltacht , became Land Minister, Land Minister Erskine Childers took over the newly established Ministry of Transport and Energy on July 27th.
