Government Lynch 2

The Lynch 2 government was the 13th government of the Republic of Ireland , in office from July 2, 1969 to March 14, 1973.

In the parliamentary elections on June 18, 1969 , Fianna Fáil (FF) , who had ruled since 1957, defended her absolute majority and provided 75 of 144 MPs. Jack Lynch , Taoiseach (Prime Minister) since 1966 , was re-elected as head of government on July 2, 1969 by 74 votes against 66 by the Dáil Éireann (Lower House of the Irish Parliament).

Reshuffles

Justice Minister Michael Moran resigned on May 5, 1970 for health reasons. On May 7, Lynch dismissed Agriculture Secretary Neil Blaney and Treasury Secretary Charles Haughey , who were accused of being involved in arms smuggling for the IRA (the Arms Crisis ). Social Affairs Minister Kevin Boland announced your resignation in protest against the dismissal. Parliamentary secretary Paudge Brennan resigned a day later. On May 9th there was a major reshuffle in the government.

Michael O'Kennedy was appointed Minister Without Portfolio on December 18, 1972. Foreign Minister Patrick Hillery resigned on January 3, 1973 and became a member of the European Commission . The Minister for Transport and Energy Brian Lenihan moved to the State Department and O'Kennedy took over the transport and energy portfolio. Jim Tunney became Parliamentary Secretary to the Secretary of Education.
