Government of WT Cosgrave 4
The WT Cosgrave 4 government was the third Executive Council of the Irish Free State , serving from June 23 to October 11, 1927.
In the parliamentary elections on June 9, 1927 , Cumann na nGaedheal (CG) , which had ruled since 1923, lost 16 seats, but remained the strongest party with 47 of 155 seats and continued to form the government.
William Thomas Cosgrave was re-elected President of the Executive Council by the Dáil Éireann (Parliament) on June 23, by 68 votes to 22 . The ministers were elected by the Dáil on the same day. The appointment of the members of the Executive Board was made by Governor General Timothy Michael Healy . All members of the government belonged to Cumann na nGaedheal (CG).
A vote of no confidence on August 15th ended in a tie with 71 to 71 votes, whereupon the vote of the parliamentary chairman tipped the balance in favor of the government. Thereupon new elections were scheduled for September 15 , in which Cumann na nGaedheal gained 15 seats.
