Bruton's government
The Bruton government was the 24th government of the Republic of Ireland , in office from December 15, 1994 to June 26, 1997.
After the parliamentary elections on November 25, 1992, Fianna Fáil (FF) and Labor Party (ILP) formed a coalition, Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Albert Reynolds (FF). On November 17, 1994, Labor left the government. Fine Gael (FG), Labor and Democratic Left (DL) formed a new government. John Bruton , the chairman of Fine Gael, was elected the new Taoiseach by Parliament on December 15, 1994 with 85 votes to 74. The ministers were elected at the same meeting and then appointed by the President . The ministers of state were appointed on December 20th. In the parliamentary elections on June 6, 1997 , the previous governing parties lost their majority and only got 75 of the 166 seats. The new head of government was Bertie Ahern (FF), a minority government made up of Fianna Fáil and Progressive Democrats (PD), who jointly held 82 of the 166 mandates.

Appointments and renaming
On January 27, 1995, two other ministers of state were appointed: Donal Carey and Avril Doyle .
The Treasury Secretary of State Phil Hogan resigned on February 9, 1995. Jim Higgins became the new Minister of State .
On May 23, 1995, the Secretary of State for Defense and the Marine Affairs Hugh Coveney resigned and was appointed Secretary of State in the Treasury. He was followed by Minister of Defense Seán Barrett, Minister of State . Secretary of State Jim Higgins moved from the Treasury to the Department of Defense.
The Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications Michael Lowry resigned on November 30, 1996, Prime Minister Bruton took over the management of the ministry. Alan Dukes became the new Minister on December 3rd.
