Lemass Government 2
The Lemass 2 government was the 10th government of the Republic of Ireland , operating from October 11, 1961 to April 21, 1965.
In the parliamentary elections on October 4, 1961 , Fianna Fáil , who had ruled since 1957, lost her absolute majority and still had 70 of 144 MPs. Seán Lemass , Taoiseach (Prime Minister) since 1959 , was re-elected as head of government on October 11, 1961 by 72 votes to 68 by the Dáil Éireann (Lower House of the Irish Parliament). The members of the government were appointed by the president the following day.

Reshuffles
On October 8, Agriculture Secretary Patrick Smith resigned. His successor was Justice Minister Charles Haughey , Prime Minister Seán Lemass took over the Justice Department on a temporary basis. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Land, Brian Lenihan , also became Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice. George Colley followed him on October 21 as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Land.
On November 3, Lenihan replaced Lemass as Minister of Justice.
