De Valera Government 5
The De Valera 5 government was the eighth and final Executive Council of the Irish Free State , serving from July 21, 1937 to December 29, 1937.
In the parliamentary elections on July 1, 1937 , Fianna Fáil (FF), ruling since 1932, was the strongest party with 69 out of 138 seats. On July 21, 1937 Eamon de Valera (FF ) was re-elected President of the Executive Council (Head of Government) with 82 votes to 52 by the Dáil Éireann (Parliament). All members of the government belonged to the Fianna Fáil.
The government's term of office ended on December 29, 1939 with the entry into force of the new constitution of the Republic of Ireland . The Executive Council became the first government of the Republic of Ireland with the same membership .
