from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haughey 2 government was the 18th government of the Republic of Ireland , in office from March 9, 1982 to December 14, 1982.

When the coalition of Fine Gael (FG) and Labor Party (ILP) lost the vote on the budget, there was an early parliamentary election on February 18, 1982 . The strongest party was Fianna Fáil (FF), which with 81 of 166 members in the Dáil Éireann (lower house of the Irish Parliament) had no majority. Charles Haughey (FF), head of government from 1979 to 1981, formed a minority government of the Fianna Fáil supported by Sinn Féin the Worker's Party and several independent MPs. Haughey was elected Taoiseach (Prime Minister) on March 9th by 86 votes against 79 . The members of the government were appointed by the president on the same day . The head of government appointed the ministers of state on March 23.

On November 4, 1982, Prime Minister Haughey put the vote of confidence and lost with 80 votes to 82. Then there were early elections for the second time this year on November 24th , in which Fine Gael and the Labor Party together won a majority.
