Terry Leyden (born October 1, 1945 ) is an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil .

After finishing school, Leyden studied at the National University of Ireland in Galway , where he received a diploma in political science , sociology and economics .

In 1974 he was elected to Roscommon County Council . He was re-elected in 1979, 1985 and 1999. 1977 Leyden was first elected to the Dáil Éireann for the Fianna Fáil in the constituency of Roscommon-Leitrim . After several successful re-elections, now in the Roscommon constituency , he was a member until 1992. During this time he was Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Post and Telegraphy from March 23, 1982 to December 14, 1982, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health from March 12, 1987 to July 12, 1989, and from July 19, 1989 to February 11, 1992 Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. After he was already from December 2, 1992 to December 17, 1992 Senator in the Seanad Éireann , he was first elected to the Seanad Éireann in 2002. In December 1992, he was nominated Senator by Taoiseach Albert Reynolds to fill a vacant seat. In the next Senate elections in 2007 Leyden was able to defend his seat.

Leyden is married and has four children. His daughter, Orla Leyden (Fianna Fáil), was first elected to Roscommon County Council in 2004.
