De Valera Government 10
The De Valera 10 government was the 6th government of the Republic of Ireland , in office from June 13, 1951 to June 2, 1954.
In the early parliamentary elections on May 30, 1951 , the opposition Fianna Fáil (FF) became the strongest party with 69 out of 147 seats in the Dáil Éireann (lower house of the Irish Parliament), with the support of a few independent MPs, the chairman of Fianna Fáil Éamon de Valera elected Taoiseach (Prime Minister) by the Dáil on June 13, 1954 by 74 votes to 69 . The ministers were elected by the Dáil on the same day. The Taoiseach, ministers and Taoiseach-nominated secretaries of state were appointed by President Seán Ó Ceallaigh on the same day . The government consisted only of members of the Fianna Fáil.
In the parliamentary elections on May 14, 1954 Fianna Fáil lost the majority. The chairman of Fine Gael John A. Costello became Taoiseach of a coalition government made up of Fine Gael (FG), Labor Party (ILP) and Clann na Talmhan (CnT).
