De Valera Government 8
The government of De Valera 8 was the third government of the Republic of Ireland , it was in office from July 1, 1943 to June 7, 1944.
In the parliamentary elections on June 23, 1943 , Fianna Fáil (FF) , which had ruled since 1932, lost its absolute majority, but remained the strongest party with 67 of 138 seats. Éamon de Valera was elected Taoiseach (Prime Minister) on July 1, 1943 by 67 votes to 37 by the Dáil Éireann (Lower House of the Irish Parliament) and appointed by President Douglas Hyde .
The ministers were elected by the Dáil the following day. The government consisted only of members of the Fianna Fáil.
In the early parliamentary elections on May 30, 1944 , Fianna Fáil won back an absolute majority.
