action

Bastien and his half-siblings and cousins are part of a large and widely ramified blended family and are dissatisfied with moving from apartment to apartment and lacking stability. The children secretly move into the empty, large old apartment of Eliot's late grandmother, to show the adults that they can get along as a group. After a successful weekend, they suggest to their parents that they stay in the apartment as a youth flat share with a care plan for the parents. After initial hesitation, all parents agree, but withhold from the children that the apartment is already being offered for sale.

Reviews

“Better to live in an unusual way” is a warm-hearted film full of funny ideas that is authentic and far less over-the-top than you might think. Everything could happen exactly as director Gabriel Julien-Laferrière describes it in his great comedy. "

- André Wesche : Augsburger Allgemeine

"Turbulent and charming, but ultimately also harmless French comedy."

- Katharina Granzin : film starts

“Better to live in an unusual way” conveys the image of a childhood in which there are neither secrets nor a reason for curiosity. Symptomatic is the camera's disinterest in the apartment that the children are occupying. Although located in the charming old building, it is only used as decor, not for discovery. Every hint of magic dissipates. In fact, there is no temptation to grow old. That is truly life without any prospect of meaning. "

- Andreas Günther : Weser Courier
