Philippe Katerine (* 8. December 1968 as Philippe Blanchard in Thouars , Deux-Sevres ) is a French singer-songwriter , actor and writer .

Life

Philippe Katerine grew up in Chantonnay in the Vendée department in a strictly Catholic and traditional family. He began to be interested in art and especially music at an early age. But in his youth he was also a talented and ambitious basketball player. After graduating from high school, he studied plastic arts at the Université de Haute Bretagne Rennes 2 in the second half of the 1980s .

His career began in 1991 with the release of his first album Les mariages chinois , which was reissued in an expanded version in 1992 under the title Les mariages chinois et la relecture . Philippe Katerine was very shy at the time and rarely appeared in public. He was also confused about the quality of his work. His second album, L'éducation anglaise, was only released in 1994 . He then began to write and compose songs for other performers. In 1996 an elaborate production by Philippe Katerine with a larger orchestra and choir appeared for the first time. This recording, entitled Mes mauvaises fréquentations , was very well received by the audience.

In 1999 he composed the music for the album Une histoire d'amour by the Danish film actress and singer Anna Karina and then went on a concert tour with her. Philippe Katerine discovered his passion for cinema at her side and played his first film roles. In 2001 he could be seen in the short film Nom de code: Sacha by Thierry Jousse. At the same time, he continued to write lyrics, for example for the musician Bertrand Burgalat and composed for the Belgian singer and film actress Helena Noguerra . After recording his album 8 ème ciel ('8th heaven') in 2002, he said of himself: “I feel free now, as if a burden has fallen off me.” His 2005 album Robots après tout made him with the Song Louxor j'adore known through his traditional audience and brought him the title of climber of the year and a gold record in the 2006 Victoires de la Musique music competition . In the same year he performed on October 30th at the Paris Music Hall Olympia .

As an artist, Philippe Katerine is an all-rounder. He published a book with his own drawings and collages . In 2012 he exhibited his works in the Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann . The exhibition under the motto Comme un ananas ('Like a pineapple') showed caricatures of the most famous contemporary French politicians (especially the protagonists of the political right were targeted), watercolors with street scenes in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and a sculpture. The lyrics of his chansons often sound bizarre, but address serious issues such as politics and love.

family

Philippe Katerine was married to the Belgian singer and actress Helena Noguerra for a few years . He then lived with the French actress and singer Jeanne Balibar . Katerine is in a relationship with Julie Depardieu ; the two have two children. He is the father of another son who was born in 1993.
