Caterina Murino (born September 15, 1977 in Cagliari ) is an Italian actress and former model .

biography

Murino first attracted attention in 1996 in the Miss Italy election , where she finished fourth. A year later, Murino was supported by a modeling agency contracted and recruited between 1997 and 2002, among others in Germany and Japan for Nescafé , in Italy for the car brand Mercedes-Benz and worldwide for the Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch and for the credit card company MasterCard . In addition to her work as a model, she took part in the popular Italian quiz program Passaparola and trained as an actress from 1999 to 2000. In 2000, Murino first appeared in a minor supporting role in Dino Risi's television film Le Ragazze the Miss Italia , a comedy about the Miss Italia beauty pageant . In the same year she acted under the direction of Danilo Ghezzis in the Italian theater production of Agatha Christie's crime novel Ten Little Niggers , which is also known in Germany under the title And then there were none .

With the following roles in Italian film and television productions, Murino failed to establish herself as a serious actress in her home country. After an engagement in the Italian television series Orgoglio (2004), she moved to France , where she received her first leading role in the film L'Enquête corse that same year . In the Corsican comedy by Alain Berbérian, she plays the sister of Jean Reno , who is confronted with a Parisian detective (played by Christian Clavier ) after a surprising inheritance . Another leading role followed in 2005 in the crime film L'Amour aux trousses , in which, as the wife of a police officer, she gets caught between the fronts of husband and lover. In 2006, Murino also gained greater fame in France for the supporting role of Elena in Patrice Leconte's film Les Bronzés 3 - Amis pour la vie . The sequel to Leconte's movie comedies Die Strandflitzer (1978) and Sonne, Sex und Schneegestöber (1979) with Christian Clavier, Thierry Lhermitte , Michel Blanc , Gérard Jugnot and Josiane Balasko in the leading roles, was just as successful at the French box office as its two predecessors . In 2006, Murino was selected as the Bond girl for the 21st James Bond film Casino Royale together with the Frenchwoman Eva Green . In addition to the new title hero Daniel Craig , her film partners include Giancarlo Giannini , Judi Dench and Mads Mikkelsen . The agent film was followed by Oliver Parker's and Barnaby Thompson's comedy Die Girls von St. Trinian (2007) and John Irvin's Hemingway adaptation The Garden of Eden (2008). In 2008 Murino starred in XIII - The Conspiracy , the television adaptation of the Franco-Belgian comic series XIII , alongside Stephen Dorff and Val Kilmer . In 2011 she also appeared in the television series of the same name .

Murino, who speaks fluent French and English in addition to Italian , counts flamenco , oriental dance and tango among her skills. Murino's other theater work includes Luigi Pirandellos Cosi 'e' se ve pare (2001) and William Shakespeare's drama Richard III. (2003), in which she worked again with theater director Danilo Ghezzi.
