Ivan Yates

Ivan Yates (* 1. October 1959 in Enniscorthy , County Wexford ) is an Irish politician of Fine Gael .

biography

The farmer and businessman Ivan Yates began his political career as a candidate for Fine Gael in 1981 with the first election to the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ). There he represented the constituency of Wexford after six subsequent re-elections until 2002 . During this time he was the opposition spokesman for financial policy from 1990 to 1994 .

After the Fine Gael electoral victory, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) John Bruton on December 15, 1994 and held that post until the end of Bruto's reign on June 26, 1997.
