Mark Clinton

Mark A. Clinton (born February 7, 1915 in Kells , County Meath , † December 23, 2001 in Dublin ) was an Irish politician of the Fine Gael .

biography

Clinton, who worked as property manager, was first elected to the House of Commons ( Dáil Éireann ) as a candidate for Fine Gael in 1961 and first represented the constituency of Dublin County , then from 1969 to 1977 Dublin County North and finally from 1977 to 1981 the constituency of Dublin County West .

After the election of Fine Gael, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in his cabinet on March 14, 1973 by Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Liam Cosgrave and held this office until May 25, 1977. On February 9, 1977 the ministry was in Renamed Ministry of Agriculture.

In 1979 he was also elected member of the 1st European Parliament and, after his re-election in 1984, represented Ireland until 1989 during the 2nd electoral term of the European Parliament .

In 1981 he decided not to run again for the House of Commons and left the Dáil Éireann.
