August Ferdinand Mandel

August Ferdinand Mandel (born August 3, 1771 in Briese , † November 29, 1846 in Berlin) was a German architect , construction clerk and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school, August Ferdinand Mandel trained in Sprottau from 1788 and in Glogau from 1790 . In 1792 he went to Berlin as an apprentice at the Oberhofbauamt, where he became a conductor in 1794 and a court building inspector in 1798. He taught from October 1, 1799 to 1802 at the Bauakademie zu Berlin in conjunction with Friedrich Gilly at the drawing institute and from 1802 to 1809 as a lecturer for statics and hydrostatics. In 1809 he became a city councilor in Berlin. In 1816 he was employed as a building inspector in the Ministry of Public Works, where he was given the position of inspector of street lighting. In the following years he worked closely with Karl Friedrich Schinkel . In 1818 he was appointed building officer and in 1831 government and building officer and technical member of the ministerial building commission in Berlin. In 1836 he was honored with the Red Eagle Order, fourth class. In 1842 he was retired and appointed to the secret government council.
