Life

Bolat Schäkimow was born in 1956 in the village of Panika (now Aktau) in what is now the Tasqala district in western Kazakhstan . Between 1974 and 1979 he studied mechanical engineering at the Agricultural Institute of Western Kazakhstan . He obtained another degree in 1991 at the Institute for Political Science and Management in Alma-Ata .

He began his professional career in 1979 as a teacher at a secondary school in Kamensky district and secretary of the Komsomol committee at the school. Later worked for a motor transport company. From December 1985 he was a trainer of the district committee in the Kamenski rajon of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan and secretary of the party committee of a state farm. In 1991 he was briefly assistant to the First Secretary of the Urals Region Party Committee and Chairman of the Regional Council of People's Deputies and a senior member of the regional administration.

Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan's independence, he initially continued to work for the Kazakh authorities as a manager and assistant in the administration of the Western Kazakhstan region. In June 1993, however, he went into the private sector where he managed various companies in the following years. It was only in December 2004 that he returned to politics by becoming the Äkim of Tasqala district. In November 2007 he became Äkim of Börili district . On January 24, 2012, Shakimov was appointed mayor of the city of Oral . Just a few months later, on April 4, 2013, he resigned from this office at his own request.

He has been back in the private sector since 2013 and heads a company that he previously ran.
