Bolesław Leśmian

Bolesław Leśmian , actually Bolesław Lesman (born January 22, 1877 in Warsaw , † November 5, 1937 ibid), was a Polish poet . He was the cousin of the poet Jan Brzechwa and nephew of the writer Antoni Lange .

life and work

Leśmian spent his youth in Kiev , where he also completed his law degree. In 1901 he moved to Warsaw. He made contact with the modernists and began to write for the magazine "Chimera". From 1911 he worked in the Teatr Artystyczny (art theater) in Warsaw. After the First World War he moved to Hrubieszów , where he worked as a notary , and later to Zamość , where he ran his own notary office. In 1933 he became a member of the Polska Akademia Literatury . In 1935 he moved back to Warsaw with his wife and two daughters.

Leśmian strictly adhered to the syllabotonic rule in his poetry and addressed philosophical and metaphysical topics in his poems.
