Bolesław Szabelski
Bolesław Szabelski (born December 3, 1896 in Radoryż , † August 27, 1979 in Katowice ) was a Polish composer.
Szabelski studied organ with Mieczysław Surzyński and composition with Roman Statkowski and Karol Szymanowski at the Warsaw Music Academy . From 1929 to 1939 he was an organ and composition teacher at the Katowice Music Academy ; from 1945 he again led the organ and composition classes at the Katowice Music Academy.
Szabelski's name appeared in the so-called special wanted book of Poland - a list drawn up by the Gestapo of Polish intellectuals who were to be killed.
He composed five symphonies , a symphonic poem and a sinfonietta , a suite, an étude and a concerto grosso , a piano concerto and a flute concerto for ten instruments, chamber music works as well as music for piano, organ and choir.
