Roman Statkowski

Roman Statkowski (born December 24, 1859 in Kalisz / Szczypiorno , † November 12, 1925 in Warsaw ) was a Polish composer and music teacher.

Life

Statkowski first studied law at the University of Warsaw, because composition with Władysław Żeleński at the Warsaw Music Institute . He continued his education at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory with Nikolai Solovyov and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov . In 1890 he received his diploma in composition and instrumentation with a gold medal.

At the international composition competition in London he won first prize at the international composition competition in Warsaw with the opera Filenis (based on the drama by Hermann Erler ), and the following year with the opera Maria (based on a poem by Antoni Malczewski ).

From 1904 he worked as a professor at the Warsaw Music Institute, initially as a teacher of musical aesthetics and history, and after Zygmunt Noskowski's death in 1909 also for composition. His students included u. a. Jerzy Lefeld , Jan Adam Maklakiewicz , Feliks Wrobel , Piotr Perkowski , Michał Kondracki , Kazimierz Wiłkomirski and Bolesław Szabelski .
