Kazimierz Wiłkomirski

Kazimierz Wiłkomirski (born September 1, 1900 in Moscow ; † March 7, 1995 in Warsaw ) was a Polish cellist , conductor , composer and music teacher .

Life

Alfred Wiłkomirski's son studied cello at the Moscow Conservatory with Alfred von Glehn and took private composition lessons with Boleslaw Jaworski . From 1919 to 1923 he attended the composition class of Roman Statkowski at the Warsaw Conservatory and studied conducting with Emil Młynarski . He was also a cellist in the Warsaw Opera Orchestra from 1919 to 1921 .

In 1924 he became principal cellist with the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra, and from 1925 to 1929 he taught at the city's conservatory. Between 1926 and 1934 he was principal cellist and conductor of the Warsaw Philharmonic . As a scholarship holder of the cultural foundation, he took courses with Hermann Scherchen from 1932 to 1935 . From 1934 until the beginning of the Second World War he was director of the Gdańsk Conservatory .

After the war he became rector and professor of conducting at the State University of Music in Łódź . Between 1947 and 1952 he worked as director of the State Philharmonic and Opera in Wroclaw , and from 1950 to 1952 as dean of the city's music academy . He then returned to Gdańsk and became director of the State Opera and Philharmonic and professor at the city's music academy. From 1957 he lived in Wrocław and worked there from 1961 as artistic director and conductor at the State Opera and as conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1963 until his retirement he taught chamber music at the State Music Academy in Warsaw .
