Michał Kondracki

Michał Kondracki (born October 5, 1902 in Poltava , † February 27, 1984 in Glen Cove ) was a Polish composer and music critic.

From 1923 to 1927 Kondracki studied composition with Roman Statkowski and Karol Szymanowski and piano with Henryk Melcer-Szczawiński at the Warsaw Conservatory . He continued his education until 1930 in Paris at the Ecole Normale de Musique with Paul Dukas , Paul Vidal , Arthur Honegger and Nadia Boulanger .

After returning to Poland, he lived in Warsaw as a composer, music critic and journalist. He was vice-president of the Polish Society for Contemporary Music and the Society of Authors and Music Critics, artistic advisor to the Warsaw Opera and a member of the Karol Szymanowski Society. When the Second World War broke out, he stayed abroad. From 1940 he lived in Rio de Janeiro, where he worked for the radio.

In 1943 he went to New York and later moved to Sea Cliff, where he gave private piano lessons. From 1960 he lived in Glen Clove. From 1948 to 1949 and from 1957 to 1969 he was a correspondent for the magazine Ruch Muzyczny .
