The Bolungarvíkurgöng are a road tunnel in the West Fjords of Iceland .
It opened on September 25, 2010. It replaces the Óshlíðarvegur, the last part of the Djúpvegur 
between Ísafjörður and Bolungarvík , which was closed to traffic exactly 60 years after its inauguration.
Óshlíð
The old path led right along the coast around Óshlíð mountain . There was talk of naming the tunnel Óshlíðargöng. The Óshlíðarvegur was at great risk due to falling rocks and avalanches .
Details about the tunnel
The new route leads from Bolungarvík to Hnífsdalur . The tunnel has two strips (8 meters wide) and 5426 meters long.
