Bombay Jayashri (real Jayashri Ramnath ) is an Indian singer of carnatic music . Bombay Jayashri has been a singer since the 1980s, she has performed at various music festivals and has released seven albums . Since 2001 she has worked on more than 20 soundtracks for cinema and television films. Sung by her song Pi's Lullaby from the movie Life of Pi ( Life of Pi ) at the Academy Awards in 2013 as best song nomination.

biography

Jayashri was born in Calcutta and grew up in Mumbai (Bombay). Her parents NN Subramanian (father) and Seetha Subramanian (mother) are music teachers. After attending high school , she obtained a diploma from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya , an institute for the care of Indian classical music and related dances. Jayashri was awarded an honorary doctorate from Mother Teresa Women's University .

In addition to training in Carnatic music (South Indian classical music), she also received lessons in Hindustan music (North Indian classical music).
