Bongo (ethnicity)

The bongo are an African ethnic group . The majority live in northwest Uganda , a small part in South Sudan . They are closely related to the Madi and Baka . They live on the eastern bank of the Albert Nile ; their neighbors are Lugbara and Acholi . About 40% are Muslims . In 1992 their number was estimated at around 200,000. In the 19th century , the bongo were exploited by Arab slave traders . They traditionally practice chopping and livestock farming .
