The Evangelical Lutheran Bonnuskirche or Bonnus Church in Bersenbrück is a sacred building erected between 1906 and the beginning of 1907 , which is currently in use by the parish of Bersenbrück, a member parish of the Bramsche parish . The church was named after the Lübeck superintendent Hermann Bonnus (1504–1548).

history

The construction of the church was preceded by a decree of the Royal Consistory in Hanover, which stipulated as follows on March 1, 1905:

“The Evangelical Lutheran residents of the villages of Bersenbrück, Hertmann-Lohbeck, Bokel, Priggenhagen and Woltrup-Wehbergen in the parish of Gehrde, district of Bersenbrück, become a Bersenbrück chapel community for the purpose of building and maintaining a chapel in Bersenbrück and setting up regular church services in the same united."

- Hanover Royal Consistory

The mandatory merger of the above Locations to a “ chapel congregation ” were therefore the basic requirement for maintaining their own prayer house. After its construction was completed in spring 1907, the inauguration followed on February 17th . After the congregation had to hand over the bells used in the church both in the First and Second World War in connection with the " metal donation of the German people ", it received the bells that are still used in the church tower on May 1, 1955 .

Furnishing

135 seats, which can be supplemented by an additional 95 if required, offer space for visitors.

local community

The Bonnuskirche is today in use of the Ev.-luth. Bonnus parish in Bersenbrück. In 1933 the community had around 300 members, the number of which increased sharply after the settlement of Germans from the eastern regions at the end of the war. By order of the regional church office in Hanover , the parish , which had previously been the Bersenbrück chapel parish, was converted into a parish on April 1, 1958 .
