Bordj El Kiffan ( Arabic برج الكيفان, DMG Burǧ al-Kīfān ) is a municipality in the province of Algiers in the north of Algeria with 151,950 inhabitants (as of 2008). The city has the character of a suburb of Algiers.
climate
According to the Köppen and Geiger climate classification , Bordj el Kiffan has a Mediterranean climate (Csa). The annual average temperature is 18.1 degrees Celsius. About 670 mm of precipitation falls annually.
history
Before 1962 called Fort de l'Eau (French: water fortress) under French rule, it used to be a famous beach resort in the Bay of Algiers with luxury hotels and a casino. Pollution from urbanization, nearby industrialization, and untreated sewage hurt its status, and the beach has not been popular since the late 1970s.
