The Boreas is a 220 m high nunatak on the Princess Martha coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises 1.5 km southwest of the Nunatak Passat at the mouth of the Schytt Glacier in the Jelbart Ice Shelf .
The Nunatak was discovered and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . It is named after the Boreas , a Dornier whale , which Lufthansa made available to the research trip as one of two aircraft. A survey was carried out during the Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1949–1952).
