Boreum ( Greek  Βόρειον, Βόρειον ἄκρον , Boreion ) was an ancient promontory (modern Ras Teyonas ) and a place of the same name in Cyrenaica in North Africa in today's Libya . The place was identified as today's Bu Grada , 13 km northeast of Brega on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea at the eastern end of the Great Syrte .

The place is mentioned in Itinerarium Antonini 66, in Tabula Peutingeriana Section 7, in Stadiasmus Maris Magni 447 and in Prokopios by Caesarea De aedificiis 6, 2.

The city was the seat of an important Jewish community. During the Roman Empire it belonged to the province of Creta et Cyrene , and since Diocletian to the province of Libya superior . As part of the reorganization of Kyrenaica under Justinian I , the port was fortified, a citadel was built and the synagogue was rededicated as a Christian church. The titular bishopric of Boreum goes back to the bishopric in the city .
