Boris Borisovich Akimov

Boris Borissowitsch Akimow ( Russian Борис Борисович Акимов ; scientific transliteration Boris Borisovič Akimov ; born June 25, 1946 in Vienna , Austria ) is a Soviet-Russian dancer and choreographer .

After studying dance in Moscow, he became a member of the Bolshoi Ballet in 1965 . In 1979 he graduated from the pedagogical faculty of the State Institute for Theater Arts (GITIS) and then taught at the faculty of choreography at the same university from 1980 to 1988.

Since 1989 he has been a ballet instructor at the Bolshoi Theater; as such, he was also active in opera houses and with ballet companies in London, Milan, Tokyo, Vienna, Hamburg, Munich, Copenhagen, Paris, Basel and Amsterdam.

From 2001 to 2005 he was a professor at the Moscow Ballet Academy . From 2001 to 2002 he was its managing director, from 2002 to 2005 he was its artistic director. From 2000 to 2003 he was artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet.

He was honored as a People's Artist of the USSR in 1989.
