Boris Jurjewitsch Scharkow ( Russian Борис Юрьевич Шарков , English transcription Boris Sharkov ; born February 11, 1950 in Moscow ) is a Russian physicist .

Life

Boris Sharkov studied physics from 1967 to 1973 at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute ( MEPhI ), at the Faculty of Theoretical and Experimental Physics . In 1979 he received his PhD in plasma physics .

At the invitation of ITEP , he organized the group for heavy ion research in laser-generated plasmas, which deals with the development of the source of highly charged ions for the ITEP accelerator . In 1991 he obtained his second doctorate (habilitation) in "Physics of the ion bundles of charged particle beams and accelerator physics ". In 1999 he received the title of professor of the Highest Attestation Commission in Russia and since 2005 he has held a chair at the National Research University MEPhI. Boris Scharkow has been a co-author and head of the project to modernize the ITEP accelerator since 1996: the ITEP proton accelerator is to be converted into a heavy ion accelerator . In 1997 he was Vice Director and from 2005 to 2008 Director of the ITEP State Research Center in Moscow.

Since 2010 he has been Scientific Managing Director of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe ; He was succeeded on January 1, 2017 by Paolo Giubellino .

Act

Boris Scharkow is a specialist in the field of the physics of matter in extreme states, as well as in the field of accelerator physics. The most important scientific results of Boris Scharkow are devoted to the problems of heavy ion fusion and the related studies of the extreme states of matter under the influence of concentrated energy flows of heavy ions in dense ionized matter. He is the author and co-author of around 200 publications, including four books and three patents.

Boris Sharkov is a member of the Nuclear Society of Russia, a member of the editorial boards of three scientific journals, a member of the Scientific Councils of the State Corporation "Rosatom" and the Russian Academy of Sciences . From 2006 to 2012 he was a member of the Board for Plasma Physics of the European Physical Society .

In 2006 he was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Boris Sharkov has received numerous awards, meanwhile he is the laureate of the “State Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the Field of Science and Technology” and the winner of the Veksler Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences . In 2016 he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea .
