Boris Vormann

Boris Vormann is a German political scientist and university professor. From 2015 he was a substitute professor for politics at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University of Berlin . He has been Professor of Political Science at Bard College Berlin since mid-2017 .

Career

education

Vormann studied cultural studies, literature and linguistics at the TU Dresden from 2003 to 2009. Study visits took him to New Jersey and New York. From 2009 to 2013 he did his doctorate in political science at the Graduate School of North American Studies at FU Berlin. His dissertation Blind Spots of Globalization. Neoliberalization Processes, Technological Innovation, and Socio-Spatial Change in North American Port Cities was awarded summa cum laude .

academic career

Vormann is an associate researcher at the Chaire de Recherche du Canada en Études Québécoises et Canadiennes (CRÉQC) of the Université du Québec in Montréal / Canada and has been a visiting researcher at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), at Harvard University and New York University. In 2015 he received the Fulbright American Studies Award from the German Society for American Studies and the Fulbright Commission for his research . From 2015 to 2017 he was a professor in the Politics Department at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. Vormann has been Professor of Political Science at Bard College Berlin since mid-2017 .

The focus of his scientific research is globalization and its effects on political institutions, societies and economic geographic structures. His research compares state-market relationships, re-nationalization and the development of global cities and urban regions and highlights the ongoing importance of the state on a global and subnational level. Boris Vormann's current research focus is on examining the role of the US state in creating global transportation infrastructures.

Boris Vormann commented on current political events in the media for Deutsche Welle, N24 and DeutschlandRadio Kultur, among others. Vormann is the translator of the book Austerity: The History of a Dangerous Idea by the Scottish political scientist Mark Blyth and the monograph The Age of Uncertainty by Quebec political scientist Alain-G.-Gagnon .
