Ingo Kolboom

Ingo Kolboom (born February 16, 1947 in Hohenaspe ) is a German political scientist, historian and Romanist . Kolboom taught as a professor for French studies and Francophonie at the TU Dresden .

Life

Ingo Kolboom comes from an old Saxon family of theologians - his mother comes from Dresden ; his grandfather was a pastor at the Michaeliskirche in Dresden-Bühlau . Even as a teenager, Kolboom was particularly interested in history and politics before he discovered his interest in France. He was drafted into the army in 1966 and released as a reserve officer in 1968 .

From 1968 to 1975 Kolboom studied Romance studies , history , political science and German at the University of Saarbrücken , the University of Paris I (Sorbonne) , the TU Berlin and the FU Berlin . His degrees were the License des lettres at the Sorbonne , the state examination for the higher teaching post and the doctorate in history.

From 1975 to 1981 he worked as a research assistant for Romance studies at the Technical University of Berlin and until 1984 as a lecturer in political science at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Hamburg . From 1983 to 1994 he was director of research and head of the workplace France / Franco-German Relations in the Research Institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP) in Bonn, where he from 1984 to 1994 as a coordinator of a discussion group France Standing - Franco-German relations had . In the 1992/1993 trimester he was visiting professor for Franco-German history and German studies at the University of Montreal in Québec , Canada .

From 1994 to March 31, 2012 Kolboom was Professor of French Studies and Francophonie at the TU Dresden, where he also held the position of Director at the Center for Interdisciplinary Franco-Canadian and Franco-American Research Québec - Saxony (CIFRAQS). From 1994 to 1997 Kolboom was Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature Studies and from 1995 to 1997 and 2001 to 2003 Managing Director of the Institute for Romance Studies at TU Dresden. From 1997 he was a member of the council of the TU Dresden. Since 1999/2000 he has been an associate professor at the Historical Institute of the University of Montreal .

Kolboom has written articles on French social and contemporary history, politics and culture, Franco-German relations, European security policy, Canadian and Quebec politics, history, culture and literature and international Francophonie.

Kolboom lives in Dresden and is married.

Other functions and offices

Ingo Kolboom has been a member of the Franco-German Cultural Council , established in 1988 , to which ten German and ten French representatives belong. He took on the issues of the new federal states in this committee in a special way and advocates the further expansion of French teaching in the new federal states . Most recently, he organized a campaign to improve reception of the French-language television channel TV5 Monde in the East German cable network .
