Manfred Flügge

Manfred Flügge (born March 3, 1946 in Kolding , Denmark ) is a German writer and translator .

Manfred Flügge, who comes from an East Prussian refugee family, spent his childhood and youth in the Ruhr area from 1948 . He attended the Adalbert-Stifter-Gymnasium in Castrop-Rauxel , where he passed the school leaving examination in 1965 . From 1965 to 1974 he studied Romance studies and history at the Universities of Münster and Lille . 1974 doctorate he with a Romanist work at the University of Münster Dr. phil. Then he was a trainee lawyer in Hagen and from 1976 to 1990 lecturer and assistant professor at the Free University of Berlin , where he received his habilitation in 1981 . Flügge has been a freelance writer since 1990. In 1992 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt . Flügge now lives in Paris and Berlin .

Manfred Flügge is the author of novels , short stories , biographies , reviews , plays and radio plays . He also translates from French .

Manfred Flügge has been a member of the German PEN Center since 1999 . He received u. a. The following awards: 1994 the Alfred Döblin scholarship , 1997 a scholarship from the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles and the Stuttgart Writers ' House , 2003 a visiting professor at Miami University in Oxford (Ohio) , 2004 the honor of the Villa Départementale Marguerite Yourcenar in Saint- Jans-Cappel , 2014 in Dresden the literature prize “Hommage à la France” of the Brigitte Schubert-Oustry Foundation and the Prix Jean Monnet du Dialogue Européen 2014 for his French essay Le bleu des Anges. Le rêve français de Heinrich Mann (Grasset, 2014).
