Lothar Albertin

Lothar Albertin (born December 26, 1924 in Ortelsburg / East Prussia ; † March 28, 2018 in Bad Meinberg ) was a German historian and professor at Bielefeld University .

Life

Albertin completed a secondary school diploma, military service on the Eastern Front, was wounded and was taken prisoner of war, after which he settled in Bad Meinberg. He studied history, German language and literature and state philosophy at the Universities of Cologne and Amsterdam and received his doctorate in 1953 under Theodor Schieder . The legal traineeship at the Gymnasium Leopoldinum in Detmold was followed by courses in civic education for schoolchildren and history teachers at the Vlotho youth farm from 1957 to 1960 . From there he went first to the Philipps University of Marburg and then to the University of Mannheim , where he completed his habilitation in 1968 as an academic senior councilor for contemporary history and political science. He was appointed Scientific Councilor and private lecturer and went to the Bielefeld University of Education in 1974 and to Bielefeld University in 1979 , where he taught until 1989.

His main research interests were German liberalism , the history of France in the 20th century, and the East Westphalian regional history.
