The LWL-Bildungszentrum Jugendhof Vlotho is located on the Amtshausberg in the East Westphalian town of Vlotho in North Rhine-Westphalia . The Jugendhof sees itself as a supporter of the work of public and independent youth welfare organizations . The regional association of Westphalia-Lippe is responsible for the educational institution .

history

In the years 1938 to 1945, the HJ - " Herzog Widukind " school for ban guards existed on today's grounds . The main building, the old farmhouse, originally stood on the area of today's Wentworth Barracks on Stiftberg in Herford until 1935 and had to give way to the casino there. Due to its age and good state of preservation, it was considered worthy of protection, carefully removed and given a new purpose. Before the end of the war, the school was closed, the training group moved to the Eastern Front and the documents destroyed.

The youth farm was founded in 1946. It was the central training center for youth leaders in the British zone of occupation , initially sponsored by the highest national youth authorities in the British zone of occupation. The first director was Klaus von Bismarck . The youth court was primarily intended to serve the democratization of the youth and was thus initially a political youth education center. Among other things, one of the first post-war songbooks for youth work was created here. In 1954 the youth farm was taken over by the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe .

The oldest building in the education center is a Westphalian farmhouse , which was dismantled near the city of Herford in 1937 and rebuilt on the Amtshausberg .

The music cabaret artist Sebastian Krämer laid the cornerstone of his career in the early 1990s as a participant in the meeting of young authors (today “FreiSchreibZeit”) and the holiday music workshop. His first CD ( Will not happen again ) was also produced in the Jugendhof Vlotho.

present

The educational establishment has cultural and educational offers. Among other things, it offers the additional qualification in factory pedagogy . The speakers at the Jugendhof include the musician Helmut Bieler-Wendt and the fairytale poet and educator Christian Peitz .
