Helmut Bieler-Wendt

Helmut Bieler-Wendt (* 1956 in Karlsruhe ) is an improvisation musician, composer and music teacher.

Bieler-Wendt studied violin, piano, music theory, improvisation and composition at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe with Hans Börner , Günter Reinhold , Eugen Werner Velte , Peter-Michael Riehm and Wolfgang Rihm . He also completed courses with Johannes Fritsch (new music and improvisation), Michael Ranta (improvisation and Asian music) and Peter Ausländer (experimental music theater, dance). In 1987 he passed his SMP exam in piano and in 1988 his final artistic exam in composition with Wolfgang Rihm. He has received grants from the city of Karlsruhe and the city of Darmstadt , the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science and Art and the German Art Association. Working scholarships led him to the Akademie Schloss Solitude and the Bartels Fondation, Basel. Since 1976 he has been working as a pianist and violinist with a strong emphasis on improvisation and concept composition in very different formations:

As a composer, Bieler-Wendt shows a particular preference for interdisciplinary concepts and music theater . Since 1977 he has been teaching in the field of music / improvisation / music theater at the Jugendhof Vlotho , from 1979 to 1989 at the Karlsruhe University of Music. He also leads courses and workshops for various institutions as well as at various schools and educational institutions in Germany, Austria, Korea, Mexico and the Philippines.

Helmut Bieler-Wendt has been working on tape music, musique concrète , audio pieces, sound installations and multivisions since the mid-1980s . After the first compositions were made at the ZKM Karlsruhe , numerous publications on CDs, videos and DVDs followed. Since 1994 he has been working with Gregor Skowronek in the field of film music and multimedia. From 1998 to 2016 Helmut Bieler-Wendt is a board member of the Institute for New Music and Music Education in Darmstadt, and has been its chairman since 2004. From 2005 to 2010 he was music pedagogical advisor to the dm -Initiative ZukunftsMusiker, since 2006 member of the board of trustees. Since 2010, Helmut Bieler-Wendt has been an education officer at the LWL-Bildungszentrum Jugendhof Vlotho with a focus on musical / cultural education, cross-generational projects and international youth projects.

His compositions have been performed in Germany, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Spain, France, Holland, Japan, Korea and South America. Most of them were produced by radio (SDR, SWR, HR, SR, WDR). He went on concert tours through Germany, Eastern and Western Europe, South America, Canada, Japan and Korea. Since 1978 he can be heard and seen on numerous LPs, CDs, videos and DVDs. Since 1995 he has headed the Skowronek Audiovisuell Musicirkus label .
