Rubidium iodate is the rubidium salt of iodic acid .
Manufacturing
Rubidium iodate can be made from stoichiometric amounts of rubidium carbonate and iodic anhydride .
properties
Physical Properties
Rubidium iodate crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system in the space group R 3 m (space group no. 160) with the lattice parameters a = 641.3 pm, c = 789.2 pm and 3 formula units per unit cell . Rubidium iodate is easily soluble in hydrochloric acid and turns yellow. The crystals are isomorphic with the crystals of potassium iodate .
Chemical properties
When heated, rubidium iodate decomposes into rubidium iodide and oxygen :
By introducing chlorine into a hot concentrated solution of rubidium iodate and rubidium hydroxide , rubidium periodate is produced .
Rubidium iodate reacts with hydrofluoric acid to form rubidium difluoroiodate, which forms orthorhombic crystals.
