The Borkener Zeitung , also called BZ, is the daily newspaper for the people in western Münsterland . The publisher is J. Mergelsberg GmbH & Co. KG, based in 46325 Borken . The Borkener Zeitung is available both as a classic print newspaper and in various digital forms with multimedia content (ePaper, website, app).

Like almost all German daily newspapers, the BZ has lost circulation in recent years. The sold edition is currently 16,390 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 89.9 percent. This makes it one of the most stable daily newspapers in NRW in terms of circulation development .

Headquarters of the publisher

For many decades the publishing house was located in Borken's city center. With the expansion of business operations, the space available there was no longer sufficient. history

The newspaper was founded in 1867 as a weekly newspaper under the name Borkener Kreisblatt by Joseph Hubert Mergelsberg. From 1922 the paper appeared as a weekly newspaper and joined the newspaper publishing company Nordwestdeutschland (ZENO). From now on, the editorial staff of the Borkener Zeitung is only responsible for the local section. In 1935, the National Socialists forced the owners to sell the newspaper, which from then on was part of the press in the Third Reich, which was brought into line. Since 1949 the paper has been published again as an independent newspaper. The publisher receives the supraregional part from Medienhaus Aschendorff in Münster and is a member of the ZGM ( Münsterland newspaper group ).

Digital development

BZ has had a web presence on the Internet since 1997. Initially with a simple web business card, the web presence developed into a multimedia information platform. Since August 2013, content created by Mergelsberg Verlag has only been available to subscribers. The enrichment of news with further information is becoming increasingly important.
