Merremia dissecta is a plant type from the genus Merremia from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in America and the West Indies .

Merremia dissecta is an herbaceous climber whose stems are hairy to hairless. The leaf blade is palmate almost to the base divided into seven to nine leaflets on the edge. The leaf surface is usually hairless, occasionally sparsely hairy with bristles.

The flowers are single or in cymes of two to four flowers. The inflorescence stalks are 5 to 7 cm long, the flower stalks are thickened at the tip. The sepals reach a length of 18 to 25 mm, they are elongated, prickly and hairless. The crown is white and 3 to 4.5 cm long. The anthers are twisted in a spiral. The ovary is hairless, zweikammerig and contains four ovules .

The fruits are pressed in spherical capsules with a diameter of 1.5 cm. They are surrounded by a calyx that occasionally extends up to 3 cm. The four seeds are black in color, hairless and about 8 mm long.

The chromosome number is 2n = 32.

Occurrence

The species is distributed from the southern United States via Mexico , Guatemala , Honduras , El Salvador to Panama and South America and is also found in the West Indies . It grows in dry to wet thickets at altitudes of less than 400 m.
