The Borne des Trois Puissances was a triangle between France , the German Empire and Switzerland .

location

The point is located in a forest near the Swiss boundary stone No. 146 in the Jura municipality of Beurnevésin on the border between France and Switzerland . On the French side are the municipalities of Réchésy and Pfetterhouse .

The European long-distance hiking trail E5 passes here.

history

With the affiliation of Alsace to France, it is no longer an international triangle; this is now in the Rhine near Basel . The current boundary stone dates from 1890 and was the southern end of the new border between Germany and France after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 . At that time the area was known for the smuggling of alcohol, which was registered in France for export to Germany and was therefore exempt from taxes. Instead of going to Alsace, Germany at that time, however, it was brought back to France via Switzerland.

In 2015, a forest hut with a picnic area was inaugurated on the Swiss side .
