Boston is the debut album by the American rock band Boston , which was released in July 1976.
Recordings
The prehistory to Boston began in 1969 when Scholz joined the band Mother's Milk as keyboardist with guitarist Barry Goudreau, singer Brad Delp († 2007) and drummer Jim Masdea. Although the band did not last long, Scholz began to record a series of demo tapes with self-written songs in his private recording studio . At first he was mainly a keyboardist and technician, but later he added more guitars to the recordings. Finally he got a record deal with Epic Records .
When the band was supposed to audition for Epic, bassist Fran Sheehan joined the band. For the recordings of the debut album in 1975 and 1976, at the request of the record company, the drums were occupied by Sib Hashian instead of Masdea. Sib Hashian plays on all recordings except Rock and Roll Band . Only two recordings have contributions from Goudreau and Fran Sheehan: Foreplay / Long Time and Let Me Take You Home Tonight .
successes
The album was very successful and is still called the most successful debut album by a musical group in the USA, 17 million copies were sold. Only Guns N 'Roses sold approximately one million more copies of Appetite for Destruction , but its debut status is controversial. Only Whitney Houston was able to surpass this with her debut in 1986. The two singles More Than a Feeling and Peace of Mind landed at the top of the US Billboard charts.
CD remaster
In June 2006 Legacy Records released a remastered CD version. The tapes were digitally remastered by Tom Scholz himself.
