Boston College is the name of an above-ground station of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) on the campus of the eponymous Boston College in the Boston district of Brighton in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . It is the western terminus of Branch " B " (also "Boston College Line") of the Green Line and has a small depot .

history

The station was opened under the name Lake Street and initially served from 1909 to 1930 as a station for the Middlesex and Boston Street Railway . The former route can still be seen today through the grass verge in the middle of Commonwealth Avenue . As part of the establishment of the Boston College campus, the station was also renamed Boston College on May 21, 1947 by the Boston Elevated Railway .

In 2007, Boston College published a 10-year master plan that includes moving the station to the median of Commonwealth Avenue . The college agreed to support the project financially and also to provide the necessary land.

As part of an interim solution, the platforms were renewed in 2009 for 296,000 US dollars , but plans to relocate the station remained - at a projected cost of 20 million US dollars. A major advantage of the new location is seen in the fact that the vehicles of the Green Line no longer have to cross Commonwealth Avenue in daily operation , which means that road traffic is expected to be reduced by 89%. However, a crossing is still required to get to the depot.
