The Botanical Gazette was a botanical journal founded by John Merle Coulter and published by the University of Chicago Press .
The publication started in 1876 after the previous journal Botanical Bulletin ( ISSN 1529-4560 ) had appeared from 1875 to 1876 . In 1991 the magazine was discontinued; the successor journal has since been the International Journal of Plant Sciences with ISSN 1058-5893 .
