The Jardín Botánico de Bogotá (JBB, German: Botanical Garden of Bogotá , also Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis ) is a public park and at the same time a research facility in Bogotá , named in honor of the Spanish priest and botanist José Celestino Mutis , who founded a botanical in 1783 Led expedition through Colombia . It is located in the Engativá district .

The park was opened in 1955 and has an area of 19.5 hectares. It lies at an altitude of 2552 meters above sea level . The part of the Botanical Garden is an expansive area, which from numerous paths allows a view of the diversity of hundreds of types of herbs, medicinal plants, vegetables and fruits. The existing greenhouses are kept at a temperature range of around 10 to 40 degrees Celsius, and the humidity ranges from 60 to 85 percent.

The flora of all different regions of Colombia , from La Guajira to the moors of the Andean highlands to the Amazon basin , are represented. One of the most interesting collections are the approximately 5,000 Colombian orchid species and a rose garden with 73 species, as well as winter gardens with plants that thrive in warm, dry and rainy climates.

Colombia is the second most species-rich country in the world after Brazil . The climatic zones of Colombia are hardly comparable to those of Central Europe, so other plants simply occur there. Palm trees , which you can even see in Bogotá's cool climate, are typical . They are not necessarily at home there, but survive without any problems, as the temperature there is well above zero degrees all year round.

The botanical garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is little more than 1 euro (3,500 pesos ), children from four to 12 pay half. The visit is free for visitors up to three and over 60 years of age.
