history

As with almost all provincial parks in British Columbia, this one too was the hunting and fishing area of various First Nations tribes long before the area was settled by European immigrants or it became part of a park .

The park was founded on March 16, 1956, along with other parks. When it was founded, it covered an area of 9  acres (around 3.5 hectares). Over time, the status of the park and its boundaries have changed several times. Most recently, the park boundaries were changed in 2000 with the Protected Areas of British Columbia Act . The park was reduced to its current size.

Flora and fauna

British Columbia's ecosystem is divided into different biogeoclimatic zones using the Biogeoclimatic Ecological Classification (BEC) Zoning System . These biogeoclimatic zones are characterized by a fundamentally identical or very similar climate and the same or very similar biological and geological conditions. This results in a very similar population of plants and animals in the respective zones. The park is then assigned to the Interior Douglas-fir zone with the sub-zones Dry Mild (IDFdm) and Very Dry Hot (IDFxh).

The western balsam poplar is the main tree in the park.

activities

The park is a popular destination for hikers as the Kettle Valley Rail Trail runs along the edge of the park, on a former railway line of the Kettle Valley Railway . The Trans Canada Trail also runs there . The park is the starting point or intermediate station for a variety of hiking opportunities.

The park has a total of 18 parking spaces for campers and tents and has simple sanitary facilities.
