Greenwood is a city in the region Aldi Strictly Kootenay Boundary in British Columbia near Rock Creek and Grand Forks . The small community is on Highway 3 , a section of the Crowsnest Highway .

geography

The Boundary Falls on Boundary Creek are located near the village . Boundary Creek Provincial Park and Jewel Lake Provincial Park are close to the settlement . There are also the Trans Canada Trail and the Dewdney Trail nearby.

history

Greenwood was formed in 1897 during a gold rush and was formerly one of the main towns in Boundary Country . In 1897 the place was also granted town charter ( incorporated as City of Greenwood ) and kept it, although the number of inhabitants fell sharply. In 1921 a dam was built at Boundary Falls to power Greenwood.

Demographics

The 2011 census showed a population of 708 inhabitants for the municipality. The city's population has increased by 13.8% compared to the 2006 census, while the population in the province of British Columbia grew by 7.0%.

There is the Greenwood Elementary School in the village .

The film Snow Falling on Cedars was shot in Greenwood . This is also where the television documentary about Native American artist Seven Deers and his wife, writer Sanna Seven Deers , takes place; arte , first broadcast October 10, 2014
